Leaving the Sempione state road towards Verbania, you reach Fondotoce, the first inhabited center of the extensive Municipality of Verbania. The village is located, as the name suggests, where the Toce flows into the Lake, northward from the mouth. Just the river separates it from Feriolo, today part of Baveno. The quiet village is today renowned for the campsites that overlook the Borromeo Gulf, like the nearby center of Feriolo. The Toce floodplain is one of the most important natural resources among the wetlands of Italy, so much so that in 1990 the Fondotoce Special Nature Reserve was established. The place is a focal point of the area, marking the junction that separates the Valdossola from the shores of the Lake. At Fondotoce is the railway station of Verbania, along the Simplon railway, before it passes along Lake Mergozzo (from the house only 3 km) and then to go up towards Domodossola. From Fondotoce the main road access to the Val Grande National Park also branches off for those coming from the southern area of Lake Maggiore and from the A26 motorway at Gravellona Toce. Right in front of the house we have in memory of history the House of the Resistance and the Park of Memory and Peace.
